This bolo tie isa nicely done, vintage,petite, channel inlaid Hopi Bird (Thunderbird)from the 1950s. This selection of stones wascommonly used in the 1950s: turquoise, white mother-of-pearl (MOP), jet, and red coral or spiny oyster.Two distinguishing features of this tieare (1) size: this tie is one of the smallest and most delicate bolo ties that I\'ve ever owned or seen; and (2) quality: exceptionally fine inlay considering the size of the tie.The tie is unsigned, a common practice in the 1950s.

The tie is only 1-1/8\" highand 3/4\" wide. It\'s a formidable bolo tie primarily because of its small size.It has two wire loops for fastening the strap, which was the method commonly used in the 1950s (and earlier)before the inventionof the Bennett clip in 1957 (see thefifth photo below). Note: A Bennett clasp is larger than this tie and thus wouldn\'t even fit!

The original four-plyblack leather strap shows little wear and isbuttery soft and pliable. The 1950s-style silver 2\" tips arenicely stamped and appear to be original (see thesixth photo below). I have left the original, 1950s dark patina on the tie and tips.
