Zuni JACK MAHKEE Brown & White Horse Bolo w Mosaic Inlay Saddle Dangling Tips:
$789.00

Welcome!

I\'m offering for your consideration a wonderful and rare brown horse bolo with white legs, mane and tail, made byThe great Zuni artist, Jack Mahkee, who is deceased. It\'s superb! And there are inlaid dangling tips in the form of an elaborate saddle. This piece is realistically created; the stones are carved in a three dimensional manner so the muscles and shape of the horse is properly represented. There is also a carved mane and tail and details such as carving on his saddle and turquoise and black chest band, saddle blanket and reins. The bridle is turquoise, too and the horse\'s colorations: white legs and a brown body as well as a white mane and tail create an elegant contrast to his trappings. He\'s standing on turquoise grass. All the details are beautifully done. Note the silver pommel on the saddle. There are so many fine details, so superbly constructed! The brown shell, Pen shell in two colors, one for the horse and his hooves and a lighter color brown for the saddle.  The tips match well and include a turquoise and jet saddle blanket on the detailed saddles with silver pommels. This piece is in superb vintage, wearable and collectible condition. It\'s amazing and it\'s stunning.

The dimensions of the bolo are large indeed, measuring about 3\" (7.62 cm) wide x 3\" (7.62 cm) high. The dangling tips are inlaid to match and are about 1-3/8\" (3.49 cm) high X 7/8\" (2.22 cm) wide. The piece is signed by hand engraving on the back with Jack Mahkee\'s name, as he signed his pieces. It\'s not marked for silver content but of course it would be sterling silver. All the stones are natural and hand cut and buffed and set. This is a fabulous piece.

I have another of his horses in my store and I\'ve included a pic above of that one. It would be very cool for a horse lover to buy both and have a partner wear one, so they could be worn together and each is sufficiently different from each other while obviously being part of a \"set.\" I\'d love to see partners wearing them. As someone who loves horses, too, I\'d buy both and wear them on alternate days. Either way if someone would like a deal on the pair, I\'ll be happy to accommodate.

Jack Mahkee appears in Bassman\'s book and Schaaf\'s Biographies 3 book and also in Sei\'s \"Figural Designs in Zuni Jewelry\" where he also includes a picture of a horse bolo similar to this one. Mahkee was one of the superb Zuni artists in history and this piece is a wonderful example of his fine work. I commend it to your attention for your collection. It\'s one of the museum worthy pieces. I\'ve reentry picked up another of this series, which will be offered separately in this store. If you are a horse lover as I am and would like both, I\'ll be happy to give you some special pricing.

For horse lovers, you can have as many of these as you want and you don\'t have to feed them, water them or groom them. They won\'t nuzzle your face and you can\'t ride them, but they never get sick and just look gorgeous forever!

Attributions on many of the old pieces of Native American jewelry are sometimes a moving target. All the books have errors, so in addition to counterchecking, I have developed some expertise over the years and I do care about getting it right, so as more information comes to light I update my listings and also get in touch with my previous buyers, to inform them of any changes in attributions. I am sincerely committed to ongoing accuracy.

I am sorry to say I can no longer recommend ATADA nor buying from their members with one exception, and retract my previous endorsement of the group.

I request payment by PayPal in three days, but planned in advance of purchase, alternate payment methods and time payments can be arranged.

Everything I sell comes from my personal collection or is something that I would include in my personal collection. Most pieces are museum worthy and gallery suitable, sold to you at great pricing. I vet every item carefully for quality and condition, and offer you the best. I want you to be able to rely on me for top quality, superb items that are often unique and rare examples of old antique vintage southwest, indian, native american and fine gold and gemstones, whether you\'re starting a collection or adding to one, or want something great to wear or gift.
