I\'m offering for your consideration a rare and exceptional example of a pair of inlaid stunning knifewing earrings by John Leekity, who was known as John Gordon Leak in the CG Wallace catalog for the Sotheby\'s sale. This exact knifewing design is depicted several times, attributed to John Gordon Leak, in the C. G. Wallace Sotheby\'s sale catalog. I\'ll include a page above with one example of many. The artist is also discussed in two articles by the exceptional researcher, Ernie Bulow. Here is a link to the article in the ATADA News on this subject, issue Summer 2014. Some of the pictures in these articles are of pieces I sold through this are the kind of earrings that make my heart beat faster. They are fabulous. The inlay on this pair is great. Into jet, is set turquoise and red abalone and mother of pearl, in the form of a knifewing figure with a big, stepped, hat. The lines you see in the jet were made at the time they were made, so the inlay could be done. That isn\'t damage. There is no damage at all; they are in superb vintage, wearable and collectible condition and they are  absolutely wonderful. The top portion made of turquoise and jet triangles, is depicted in the CG Wallace catalog on a knifewing earring attributed to Leekya Deyuse. Note the inlay knifewing is  a different form than these but the findings are the same as these. The other picture from the CG Wallace catalog above does depict this form and attributed to John Gordon Leak. In my opinion, these earrings are definitely from the CG Wallace bench. Note, again, that John Leekity was incorrectly called John Gordon Leak in the CG Wallace catalog and Ernie Bulow can be credited with having sorted this out. There\'s a very fine serrated bezel setting which is usual for his work and the inlay is all slightly raised. Surrounding the inlay are hand made and stamped beautiful raindrops. It\'s a beautiful frame. The silver is of the same superb quality as the inlay. These earrings are a perfect match to a ring I have available in another listing; with a matching pendant, too. There is also a different ring available so I\'ve included pictures above of all three matching items in my store right now, all available separately. The silver on these wonderful earrings is of course all hand worked. They are unsigned which is usual for his work but well documented as being his work. It\'s also not marked for silver content which is usual but of course it\'s at least .900 and probably sterling at .925 silver. This pair is a perfect collector\'s piece.

This pair of earrings measure 1-3/16\" (3.02 cm) high x 3/4\" (1.90 cm) wide. The butterfly backs are included. The weight is trivial and they are light on the ears and very comfortable to wear. The whole pair weigh 7.1grams.

John Leekity was a high profile member of the Zuni nation. He was a dancer and a runner and a great silversmith. He is well represented in the CG Wallace catalog but for some reason that is not currently known, is called John Gordon Leak in the catalog. This ring is a top example of his work as are the earrings I\'ll be listing, too, separately. They are fabulous and so flattering so elegant. These are historic pieces.

This is a museum quality pair of earrings suitable for the best of collections. They are a rare example made by one of the most important early silversmiths. The earrings are offered separately but you will find matching rings and a pendant available separately in the store. They are all of them wonderful and exceptional.

Attributions on many of the old pieces of Native American jewelry are sometimes a moving target. All the books have errors, so in addition to counterchecking, I have developed some expertise over the years and I do care about getting it right, so as more information comes to light I update my listings and also get in touch with my previous buyers, to inform them of any changes in attributions. I am sincerely committed to ongoing accuracy.

The article in the ATADA News was great but I am sorry to say I can no longer recommend ATADA nor buying from their members with perhaps one exception, and retract my previous endorsement of the group.

I request payment by PayPal in three days, but planned in advance of purchase, alternate payment methods and time payments can be arranged.

Everything I sell comes from my personal collection or is something that I would include in my personal collection. Most pieces are museum worthy and gallery suitable, sold to you at great pricing. I vet every item carefully for quality and condition, and offer you the best. I want you to be able to rely on me for top quality, superb items that are often unique and rare examples of old antique vintage southwest, indian, native american and fine gold and gemstones, whether you\'re starting a collection or adding to one, or want something great to wear or gift. My goal is that all my buyers are delighted, that my special pieces find the right homes.
