Welcome.

This older Zuni bolo is a large and exquisite piece made by the renowned Lee Edaakie. While the clasp could be from any time between 1968-1983, the bolo itself is probably from the late 60\'s or very early 1970s, based on similar work of his done in the 1940s-1960s (see the illustrations in the last picture above). It is a Thunderbird figure that some author renamed Hopi Bird figure that is exceptionally beautiful with exceptionally high quality workmanship with a rare color combination which Lee Edaakie used and which is depicted in the page of the book in the last picture above. There is a very rich mother of pearl that has dimensionality somehow, providing a sense of depth and one of the primary contrasting colors he used was a beige colored abalone which is highly pearlized. Both the mother of pearl and the abalone are so complex in the way they have depth and reflectivity, they are wonderful together. In addition there is a pure turquoise color that looks like Sleeping Beauty mine, and black jet or black coral. There is one splash of actual coral color in the crest. There is twisted wire framing the shoulders and wings and hand made raindrops punctuate the tail feathers and crest. It\'s a really rare color combination and a large piece measuring 3-1/8\" high and 2-1/2\" wide. The tips are 2-3/16\" long and seem to be original. The cord is in good shape, and may be a replacement it looks like it is in such good shape. It measures 37\" end to end including the tips. There are no problems and no damage so overall condition is excellent vintage. All this design is a slight variation of the designs in one book. This is a larger and more valuable piece, however. It\'s also more beautiful. Look at the elegant work on the rail area. It\'s amazing! Everything about the inlay, silver work, choice of stones, and cutting and buffing of the stones is clean and sure and perfect. The mosaic inlay is entirely flush and the stones hand buffed flat, and cut to fit just perfectly. If you\'ve bought from me before you know I don\'t exaggerate. This is an excellent piece by one of the best Zuni mosaic artists in history. Highly collectible and museum quality. It\'s the best!
