Welcome!

Merle Edaakie was the oldest of the four Edaakie brothers of great renown who worked for CG Wallace and were among the most accomplished artists in Zuni history. He is one of the less well known of the brothers but certainly was worthy of more attention and he is discussed at length in the book \"Knifewing and Rainbow Man in Zuni History\" with a picture of his work very similar to this piece. The quality of the inlay on this one is rare master quality, similar to a piece I had by Bowman Paywa. This is truly exceptional quality and you can see why Merle Edaakie is so valued. The piece similar to this in the book depicted above is valued at $1200-1800 and that was some years ago. You won\'t have to pay as much even though I think in this case the higher value is there.

The stones on this pin were all hand cut and buffed and the stone to stone inlay is superb. All hand cut and set and with silver work that also matches that in the picture above. The turquoise is a rich color as is the spondylus shell, contrasting beautifully with the vibrant mother of pearl and jet. The mosaic inlay is as good as it gets. The silver work with the placement of the raindrops seems to be distinctively that of Merle Edaakie and this piece is a rare find. It\'s in excellent vintage condition with some minor wear to the stones.

The pin is a good size at 2-1/8\" x 2-1/8\" at 17.7 grams. The rollover locking clasp is a little stiff but works fine. It is unsigned and unmarked for metal content which is typical of the time it was made and you can decide for yourself who made it though I do believe the attribution to Merle Edaakie is correct. This is a top level old and fine collector\'s piece, museum quality, and also a joy to wear.

Attributions on many of the old pieces of Native American jewelry are sometimes a moving target. All the books have errors, so I countercheck without relying on just one source, when possible. I do care about getting it right, so as more information comes to light I update my listings and also get in touch with my previous buyers, to inform them of any changes in attributions. I am sincerely committed to ongoing accuracy.

I request payment by PayPal in three days, but planned in advance of purchase alternate payment methods and time payments can be arranged.

International buyers pay actual shipping cost and are responsible for any customs fees their own countries may apply.

Everything I sell comes from my personal collection or is something that I would include in my personal collection. Most pieces are museum worthy and gallery suitable, sold to you at great pricing. I vet every item carefully for quality and condition, and offer you only the best. I want you to be able to rely on me for top quality, superb items that are often unique and rare examples of old antique vintage southwest, indian, native american and fine gold and gemstones, whether you\'re starting a collection or adding to one, or want something great to wear. My goal is that all my buyers are delighted, that my special pieces find the right homes.
