Vintage Zuni Sterling and Channel Set Stones Roadrunner Bolo Tie - Bennett C-31HIGH QUALITY! This is an older, beautiful roadrunner bolo tie. The stones are set in the traditional channel set technique of Zuni silversmiths. The stones used are turquoise, coral, mother of pearl, and onyx. Their colors are nicely muted and soft through 50 years of wearing on the body. Almost always, a Zuni silversmith will design the silver frame and channel work and then cut the stones to fit. No stone touches another. Silver frame channels separate the stones. This is how this fine old bolo was made. The work is clean and precise.
The roadrunner is attached to an old Bennett Patent Pending clasp with the old mark C-31 on it which tells us this bolo was made between 1957 and 1967. The sterling roadrunner is not stamped sterling but older, vintage pieces usually are not. This is definitely sterling though.The stones are all secure and in good shape, the silverwork is excellent, the locking clasp works well. It is a fun bolo to wear and admire. The roadrunner is in full motion.
The roadrunner measures 1\" H and 2 1/4\" across. It is attached to the clasp which is attached to a black plaited leather strap. The Bennett clasp slides up and down on the strap for adjustment. The strap is doubled and each side measures 18 1/2\" from center to end of the sterling cones. The leather straps end in tapered sterling cones which have little bead finials at the end and some stampwork at the top. The cones measure 2\" long. Both the leather strap and the cones are in great condition. Total weight is 25.2 grams. It is in great condition. This bolo is a good choice for a man or a woman.
