An antique, c. 19C Victorian, blonde chantilly lace triangle shawl or mantilla scarf having a pretty pattern in the lace work and scallopped edge all around. Love the blonde coloring as it is less common than the mourning black shawls. This would work beautifully with a large mantilla hair comb. I will be listing a nice one with large / tall lift so check my other listings for that is interested. Overall shawl is in very good Victorian condition. There are some spots of damage that could be repaired to stabilize easily, they are not distracting from the beautiful look of this lace shawl. I have shown all that I found in pics and describe them below.

Lace is wearable but as with all antique textiles needs to be handled gently.

There are 3 areas with some damage that need to be repaired, simple hand stitching repairs would stabilize them. See pic #7 from the end-it shows the 2 areas on back (on each side of that pic below swags) that have scattered holes-they are basically symetrically placed. Below that pic are 2 detail pics showing each area of the back that has wear. Close to a side edge is another spot for some repair, see 4th pic from end. A few scattered very small spots that could use a stitch or two. Those larger spots could be hand repaired enough to stabilize the lace with minor effort. The small spots are not distracting to the shawl. I may have missed some small spots, if so ithey are little. None occur in the lace that would frame the face if used as a mantilla scarf. 3rd pic from end shows it with a mantilla comb beneath it. No stains. I gave the scarf / shawl a couple of good long soaks and gentle hand wash so it is clean to use now. I did not press it and leave that to the new owner if desired.

Measures approx. 106\" top edge tip to tip, 55\" long at center peak.
