Classic 19th or early 20thcentury Visayan sword with disc guard unusual in beingcarved integrally from wood of thehandle; even when wooden they are usually a separate piece. Large forged blade shows areas that look like hand made folded steel; especially where the blade emerges from the handle. Wedge section blade with fine edge sharpened from one side only in typical Visayan fashion; this style predates the more familiar flat Visayan blades beveled from only one side. Edge of sheath has been chewed by a rodent. Marks from tape on back of scabbard and handle. Not kris, keris, barong, kampilan, pira, Moro.
