c.1900-1920\'s ULTRA RARE PAPER MACHE Easter CHICKEN ROOSTER NODDER - MADE IN JAPAN
Description:
Here is an authentic antique vintage & very RARE Holiday Easter chicken or Rooster Nodder made in Japan. This is an early Japanese piece probably made for export & it has the original Japanese character letters or markings on the neck of the nodder head. I estimate it to date from circa 1900 - early 1920\'s.
The only other similar one I have ever seen came from the Estate of Hilma Irtz, the lady who wrote the book on Nodders! (Figural Nodders: Identification & Value Guide)
Very delicately & fragile in construction, making it extremely scarce to find! Very few have survived intact to this day. Body made from light weight paper mache with hand painted spun cotton surface & real feathers. Head made from above materials & also wood beak & red cotton cloth. Yellow wire feet with wrapped cotton very delicate & appears to have been reinforced with small dabs of glue at joints for reinforcement. Hind claw on left foot missing but it would not really be that hard for new owner to restore/replace it if so desired. Looks fine as-is. Overall excellent condition working condition. Nodder head hangs & dangles in all directions by a piece of cotton string.
The slightest touch makes him bobble all around! Very cute & VERY RARE!!!
Measures approx 4.5\" (inches) Tall X 5\" Long.
