You are offerding on a striking and very rare miniature manuscript vellum leaf from a Book of Hours, namely the Litany of the Saints,
measuring only 2.25\" x 2.75\",
& decorated with an unbelievable 50 (!) elaborate gold illuminated initials/devices!Circa 1470, Italian.EACH LINE HAS A SINGLE GOLD ILLUMINATED CAPITAL AS WELL AS A GOLD BURNISHED EXTENDER;
BOTH EMBELLISHED IN GOLD AND WITH BLUE, AND RED COLORFUL BACKGROUNDS WITH WHITE TRACERY BEHIND,
SPANNING A WHOPPING TOTAL OF50 ILLUMINATIONS IN GOLD!

14 lines of Latin text. Ruled in red with dark brown ink, in elegant humanistic influenced medieval script. Probably penned in Italy around 1470. The quality of the vellum is nice, very thin (nearly transparent-certainly virgin calf vellum) and has lavish, thick gold in the initials and devices (so thick it weights down the leaf). Page is overall great shape with a few small flaws along the binding edge, some rubbing to the text, ever so slight soiling, and a few smaller flaws, as shown, but remains a stunner with great detailing and intricacy- a truly rare and beautiful leaf to be found this small and with so many illuminated initials!Good luck!On Apr-26-16 at 11:17:32 PDT, seller added the following information:
