Description:

A very fine and large antique Georgian embroidery sampler, coloured silk on a hand woven linen ground, byMary Ann Stirzaker, Aged 11 and dated 1818.

The detailedcross stitchedsampler, incorporates numerous images of animals, including birds and deer, floweringplants and trees, a house and two small castles.

The central section is embroidered with the poem:

\'This I worked to let you See

What pains my parents took with Me

With care, and cost, this I Wrought

And finish\'d with a pleasant Thought\'

The sampler is framed within a contemporary ebonised and gilt wood frame.

Dimensions:

57 cm x 47 cm or 22 1/2 inches x 18 1/2 inches

Condition:

In good overall condition, without restoration, the coloured silks intact and generally retaining good colour. The linen ground is darkened and has a small area of wear to the top left corner. The frame shows age related wear but is strong. The condition can be best seen in the high resolution images provided.
