NICE ENVELOPE & LETTER FROM A WASHBURN OF BLOOMINGTON ILL (Andrew Washburnwas born in New York city March 5, 1838. He was the son of Philo and Olivia LombardWashburn, of Lebanon, Conn. He grew to young manhood on his father’s farm, and began life by teaching school in the winter and working on his father’s farm in the summer.Early in the Civil war, Mr.Washburn enlisted in Company C, Eight— eenth Connecticut Infantry, his service beginning in July, 1862. He won promotions to sergeant, first sergeant and heutenant of his company. He was made captain of Company H, Twentyninth Connecticut, in January, 1864. He was mustered out as captain November 24, 1865.In the spring of 1866, he removed to Illinois and located at Danvers, where he engaged in mercantile business. Later he secured the place on WestWashingtonstreet road, nearBloomington,where the largeWashburn eenhouses are now located. He made is home at the farm until 1898, when he removed toBloomingtonand located at 1007 North McLean street. The home place west of the city continues to be the quarters of the propsgating business of the firm.Mr.Washburnwas married in 1867 to Cordelia W. Loomis, of Lebanon, Conn. She died in 1883, and in 1885 he was married to Julie. A. West, ofBloomington,who survives. The children of the first marriage are Frank L.,GeorgeA. and A. EdwinWashburn,ofBloomington,and Mrs. Emma W. Edmunds, of Clinton. The children of the second marriage are Edna B. and Lucy S.Washburn,at home.
