OUTSIDE OF TENT- BY A J RUSSELLAndrew J Russell and is #581 in Series 15 entitled \"Groups and Indians\"The UTE Native American Indian tribes are known to have
flourished and inhabited predominately in COLORADO and NORTH
WEST UTAH. Image on verso in ink reads;\"Sick Ute squaw and medicine man. Squaw put out side of
the camp until she gets well or dies?SHOWS NATIVE AMERICAN UTE MEDICINE MAN WITH SOMETHING
IN HIS HANDS - W/ SICK SQUAWThis is a round cornered purple mount albumen stereoview with
hand inscribed verso and no publisher\'s or photographer\'s name
present on obverse of verso. These particular details unto
themselves lend to asserting that this rare image is very very
rare and was never widely published or distributed and likely
may be the only extant example of this view and historic scene
for UTE tribal activities. According to the dating processes for stereoviews first codified and
outlined according to the late historian William Culp Darrah\'s
stereoview dating procedures, as found in his landmark 1960\'s book
on collecting stereographs, purple mount stereoviews with round
corners as opposed to square corners date to around 1868. Thus
this UTE Native Indian stereoview dates to about 1868.

The ABOVE stereoview is of \"WEBER\'S MILL\" is also being

offered on being shown to illustrate how this above image

came together with the UTE stereoview on offer herewith,

showing the same dark staining being evident on BOTH and

clearly illustrating that this UTE Native American Indian

stereoview is likely of the UTE tribe situate in NORTHERN UTAH.

THIS IMAGE YELLOW MOUNT IS NOT BEING SOLD HERE IN

THIS LOT - BUT IS BEING SHOWN TO INDICATE IT IS FROM

UTAH and that this image came with the UTE image herewith....

indicating that the image on offer of the UTES is likely of a UTAH based

UTE TRIBE. Both images from same collection and likely

by same early western photographer - A.J. RUSSELL.

This card on offer is in fact by A. J. RUSSELL, and the handwriting

on this was likely produced by Russell before the later commercially

produced cards with printed backs.

We have been told that this card is in fact by Andrew J Russell and is #581

in Series 15 entitled \"Groups and Indians\". Condition of the UTE TRIBAL

STEREOVIEW on offer is very good with minor soiling on the albumen

panels, wear to mount and at edges, and soiling to mount on obverse

and verso as shown. Some yellowing to images and one panel faded

more than the other.

Note dark vertical stain on lower center of stereoview\'s image panels and a scattered spot or two, including a big stain on verso of same form or consistency as found in the UTE tribe stereoview on offer.
