The catalogue of the joint exhibition of the Historical Society of Pennsylvania and the Library Company of Philadelphia Women 1500-1900 (1974) notes that \'No sex manual for women has had a longer life in print than this medieval handbook, frequently updated. For years it was the only available text which spoke frankly of the act and process of generation. It used to be sold under the counter.\'\"

A serious explication of anatomy, gynecology, reproduction, and obstetrics. Originally published in 1711, and surprisingly scarce for having been reprinted numerous times between 1790 and 1900. This edition contains numerous in text disturbing woodcuts, among which are of \"monsters and monstrous births,\'\' various astrological diagrams, some palmistry and a hans ful of colored plates, mostly pertaining to pregnancy, obstretrics, and the like. Pages and binding like new, bound in deep red Victorian cloth with black stamped designs and gilt titling to the spine, and deep red page edges as well, as shown. Hinges intact, strong; overall near fine. Rare. Measures 5.25\" x 4\" x 2.25\". Good luck!
