A very heavy and substantial marine bronze/brass porthole in very good condition. The porthole is British made by J & J Woods of Rainhill and used the Trade Mark RELIANCE. It has a registration number 495859, which dated it to around 1908. The porthole consists of the outer flange backing plate with 11 bolt holes. On it is a hinged armoured glass window swing plate with 2 retaining tightening swivel bolts (dogs). On top of that is a solid hinged deadlight/storm cover, again tightened down by another dog bolt. The glass window measures 22 cm in diameter and is 2 cm thick. The backing plate measures 36.25 cm (14 1/4 inches). The storm cover is stamped 18 P and the swing plate19 S.Size: 36 x 15cm (14 1/4 x 6 inches)
