Completely original storefront hand painted wood sign. It measures 50 1/2\" by 30 1/4\" in size. It in in untouched condition with no touch ups to the paint or alterations of any kind. It has its original frame with its original paint. It has not been professionally cleaned. I cleaned the sign slowly, gently, and carefully with a damp cloth. That is it. It is eye popping already. I can only imagine what the colors will be like if you have it cleaned professionally. It had decades of built up dirt and grime covering it when found. There are several little spots of paint loss you can see in the pictures. I took pictures inside and outside and the colors are very accurate. The sign is made from three horizontal boards, probably pine, with two smaller fatter support boards screwed to the back to hold them together. The frame is nailed to the boards and itself. I did not weigh the sign but estimate it to be in the 25 pound range. The sign has four holes, one in each corner, where it was originally bolted onto the stores front wall. The sign was removed from the wall, when the War ended, and put into the attic. It sat there for the last 98-114 years. The New York World newspaper was published from 1860 to 1931. The signs construction rules out the Civil War. It seems more likely it would relate to WWI and be c.1914-1918, but it could also be Spanish American War related and be c.1898. In person it is spectacular, more so then the pictures show. It has various minor condition issues which I pictured. Joseph Pulitzer purchased the New York World in 1883 and was the owner until his death in 1911. This sign will command your attention every day it is hanging on the wall in your office or house. I am willing to drive up to 100 or so miles to deliver the sign or meet you in the middle for pick up. If you have any questions just let me know. Please look at my other sales.
