Very rare and wonderful, 1876 Albumen Stereoview Photograph of the infamous Confederate Civil War Prison at Richmond - Libby Prison.

This outstanding Richmond Virginia Stereoview measures approx. 6 7/8\" by 3 1/2\" including its original, orange colored card mount. Text on the back of the mount identifies the Photograph as being from a series titled \"Virginia Centennial Views\" and titled \"Libby Prison\".

The Stereoview Photo pictures a view of the infamous Confederate Prison where Union Prisoners of War were held and where many died. The Image was certainly taken some time after the war, likely in the early 1870\'s and was published in this Series that was certainly produced to coincide with the 1876 Centennial Celebration. We have been unable to identify the Photographer who took this wonderful view and would greatly appreciate any information that would help to identify him.

This very rare and fascinating, 1876 Libby Prison Stereoview Photo is in excellent condition - clean and crisp and exhibiting sharp focus, strong contrast and rich tonality. The Card Mount is also clean and crisp with just a hint of light edge wear. Overall this rare and wonderful Stereoview is very well preserved and displays beautifully.
