Very rare and original, ca1910\'s Native American Hopi Indian Second Mesa hand woven and decorated Coil Basket / Plaque with outstanding multi-color decoration.

This outstanding, turn of the 20th century Hopi Second Mesa Basket / Plaque measures approx. 12 3/4\" in diameter and features a stunningly beautiful and early style decoration in green, black, red, yellow and natural wicker colors.

This beautiful Hopi Coil Basket / Plaque is tightly hand wrapped and coiled - decorated with natural dies of green, black, red, and yellow.

While we are not experts in Native American items we recently had an opportunity to buy a number of wonderful items from a number of Private Collection and some that had been deaccessioned from Museum collections. We have always admired these types of items and took the plunge into an area where we had not ventured often before. The items offered in this week\'s sale are the last from this group.

This very rare and very beautiful, ca1910\'s Hopi Second Mesa Coil Basket / Plaque is in very good condition. The wrap and the coil are tight with a handful of small and unobtrusive areas of loss to the wrap. The Basket has had no repairs and displays very nicely. The Basket displays beautifully with wonderful colors although the dies on one side have faded from exposure to sunlight while the colors on the opposite side are exceptionally dark and bold. This wonderful Hopi Second Mesa Coil Basket / Plaque came to us from a Midwestern Collection.

Please Note: We sold this Basket a couple of weeks ago and the buyer returned it to us because they believed that there was a light coating of varnish on one side of the Basket. We did not see this but please be advised that there may be a very light coating of VERY old varnish on the face of the Basket.
