Very rare and original, ca1910\'s Native American Hopi Indian hand woven and decorated Wicker Plaque Basket with wonderful, multi color eagle form decoration.
This outstanding, early 20th century Hopi Third Mesa Basket / Grooms Plaque measures approx. 12\" in diameter and features a beautiful multi colored decoration in red, black, green and natural wicker colors. There is a central red circle with black border surrounded by a ring with the images of eagles at the top and bottom quadrant and red, graduated designs at the sides.
This beautiful Hopi Basket, usually referred to as a \"Groom\'s Plaque\" is tightly hand woven and decorated with natural dies. Traditionally, this type of hand woven Plaque was presented by the Hopi bride\'s family to the family of the groom as \"pay back\" for the groom\'s family having woven the bridal clothes.

This very rare and wonderful, ca1910\'s Hopi 3rd Mesa Wicker Basket / Plaque is in very good condition. The weave is tight and the Basket is very well preserved. There are 2 tiny breaks in the woven wicker and some fading to the natural dyes but overall this wonderful Basketry Plaque is very well preserved and displays nicely. This wonderful Hopi Third Mesa Wicker Basket / Plaque came to us from the William Albert Collection.
