We are so pleased to present this fine french antique religious sculpture or reliquary carved from meerschaum, the white mineral typically found floating on the Black Sea resembling sea-foam.This rare 19th century sculpture features Saint Joan of Arc as a shepherdess, resting on a platform supported by a winged cherub or angel. The meerschaum is complemented by a dark blue background with brilliant brass edging and a luxurious wooden frame.Condition is very good; the meerschaum sculpture, itself, has been well-preserved behind the original convex glass. The glass does show a few small nicks and scratches here and there, and the frame has a small blemish near the bottom which is noticed only by the very keen eye. The piece, overall, is rich and capitivating, with a wonderful floating 3-D effect that appears to extend out beyond the frame.Measures 10.5 x 8 inches.
