5-mm size oriented intergrowth of jet-black, fresh, strong lustrous Samarskite-(Y) coarse-formed crystals with lustrous terminated crystals of Ferrocolumbite (so call Onnerodite), 0.17 g, 40 mkR/hr. Mineral is from its the type locality - mine #50 (blum Pit), Ilmeny State natural Reserve, Ilmeny Mts., Southern Ural, Russia. Other associating minerals are represented by pinkish grains of Zircon (var. Cirtolite), grey glassy Quartz and yellowish K-feldspar.
The sample comes from ex-collection of I.D. Borneman-Starynkevich (Bornemanite), and it was collected in 1912 during works of A.E. Fersman\'s (Fersmanite, Fersmite) party/subdivision of Radium Expedition on the locality. The locality was famous by its topaz, amazonite, and two REE niobates discovered here - Aeschynite-(Ce) and Samarskite-(Y). For the moment the pegmatite vein is mainly exhausted and, in any case, collecting here is prohibited. I myself find only two topaz xls and amazonite sample during my visit on the locality in 1983 summer. No traces of niobates were observed by me at that time.
