An excellent book about old Karate Masters. Most documents about the history of Karate in the Ryukyu Islands (Okinawa) was lost during the bombings of World War II. Unfortunately, several old masters also died during this event. Shoshin Nagamine Sensei looked for remaining documents and visited families of the ancient masters and reconstructed their stories. He also tried to weed out the legendary parts to present a plausible picture of these men's lives and their contribution to the continuation of this ancient Way. If you are interested in the history of Karate before and at the beginning of its introduction to mainland Japan, this book will give you valuable information.
This is an amazing book. Full of information that will help any martial artist. Full of stories about the masters of karate in Okinawa. O'Sensei Shoshin Nagamine was an amazing man. The stories should elighten us to be better practioners of the arts.
Master Nagamine is brilliant in his writing. Great book. This is a wonderful source reference for anyone looking to clarify some of the myths associated with some of the great karate Masters.
