The Mattel marketing pic is pretty fabulous! In this marketing photo, the doll and outfit look grand and sumptuous, detailed, elegant...well...Classic! This is part of the Classique Collection. The box itself boasts "Timeless and elegant, with custom quality in every detail." Hardly. And sadly. Please, save yourself some money on this "Collector Edition" doll. She is not worth the money originally retailed, and certainly and emphatically not worth more than perhaps what one would pay for a bargain basement "Pink" label Barbie, or Pink Box playline Barbie. The gold metallic material used in actual production is represented well in this photo, however the deep rich blue metallic material was subsituted with greenish/blueish, similarly textured (as gold). A swirl "design" appears embossed into the fabric, and looks pretty atrocious. The "blue" metallic fabric looks and feels very cheap. Feels like thin cheap aluminum. The blue color in the photo is NOT the blue that was produced. Every time I take a look at the outfit, I think of outer space/martians/Lost in Space. The doll's hair style/design does not fit inside the box, so production doll's hair is flat on top. You will spend considerable amount of time/energy to get this doll's hair to look anything like the photo. The end result is a visually unappealing doll, titian hair clashing with the substituted "blue metallic swirl" fabric and failure of insufficient fabric weight to drape and lay properly for display. Regarding the jewelry accessories, Mattel also did not produce the original design and opted to substitute a blue "jewel" about one quarter the size "encrusted" in the "gold" necklace. The jewel shown in photo is much, MUCH larger and seems to appear like a diamond. I could not compare the earrings since they are difficult to see in the photo, but they are the same gold color as necklace. Had Mattel gone with Carol Spencer's original design for the outfit, and not opted for cheap look and feel for the substituted production doll, it would have been a knock out for Mattel and the Barbie brand. Please go online and search for pics of the production doll and you will see the production flaws and compare for yourself. Do not base your interest and/or purchase on Mattel's stock photo. You will be disappointed.Read full review
I carefully selected and purchased this doll from Toys R Us with my Birthday money when I was 10 years old. She’s beautiful with rooted eyelashes. She’s always been the favorite Barbie in my collection.
