After the first season of Tour of Duty you would expect the second one to rock. Unfortunately the show switches from "patrolling and war" to more of a "hookers and blow" format. Seriously. I don't think their is a Vietnamese women under 40 that ISN'T portrayed as a hooker in this season. Lots of heavy drug use and sex in this season. Definitely not for the kiddies. Plot lines stray considerably from the first season. I believe the first couple episodes in the 2nd season feature practically no time in the bush for Goldman and his crew. Lots of politics and as I stated above "hookers and blow." In short, the show goes down hill BIG TIME in the 2nd season. I think the writers learned from this as in the 3rd season they attempt to resurrect it by making Goldman's crew a quasi LRRP/special ops team and bring back more missions and in the bush time.Read full review
Bought this for my husband. He loved the show when it was on and always complains that it lasted only 3 seasons. He has the first season so I bought the remaining two for him. The show is set during the Vietnam war and follows several different characters through their experiences. There is the loner, hard core solider who turns off his feelings, the 'donut dolly' who is there to bring a little home to the guys, the nurses who saw the horrible reality of war each day and the 'new' LT who needs to learn what it is all about and quickly. The show gives a look into how the war effected the many who lived it while they were unappreciated back home. I think you will like this DVD series if you would like a human look at what Vietnam was all about.
Not as good as seasons 1 and 3, but if you can't get enough of this series season 2 is definitely worth watching. The final episode of this season is the best of the whole series, IMO.

The second season follows the same group of soldiers during their tour in VietNam. There are some scenes where drug use and hookers are depicted, but this season as well as the first season gives what I believe to be an accurate portrayal of the hardships, difficulties and temptations brought to the "grunt" soldier in VietNam. These soldiers are fighting the war their country told them to fight, while the knowledge of war protesters back home, the loneliness, and drug availability all add to the weight of the packs they carry into the bush. This was a complicated war, probably more-so than than any war before. This series shows those complications. I think it stands along side "Combat" and shows the many different sides of war, none of which are without lessons to be learned. This is a very good series, and I highly recommend it.Read full review
