I love Richard Laymon as an author. I have read many of his books, including The Beast House another book in the Beast House Chronicles so naturally I choose to buy where The Beast House started... The Celler. There were parts in the book that really caught my attention, but for the most part it was a dud. The book spent too much time on Donna and her troubled husband as well as her romance (which I felt was developed way too quickly that it didn't really make sense). I wish the book had spent more time on the beast house itself. I think the book felt rushed. The worst for me was the end. One of the worse endings to a book I have ever read, it read like no thought was put into it as though he had a deadline and just through words on a paper to make it. It wasn't a complete waste, I am glad I read it but I probably won't read it again and I am glad that I didn't buy it brand new.Read full review
I have been looking for this book for years. I borrowed it from my cousin years ago and my boyfriend at the time destroyed it. I felt very bad about it and wanted to replace it for him. Now that I have found it in wonderful condition, I am going to read it again myself and then send it to my cousin to replace his copy that I lost years ago. It is an awesome book. I highly recommend reading it if you can find another copy.
