A friend had recommended the book and I am glad I bought it. The author spent considerable time in researching the subject, the research covers subjects through several centuries. It is easy to read and understand.
This book tells the history of the 'bug' that was used to make British Red Coats red and colors the beverage Campari (tm). Cochineal is a scale that grows on prickly pear cactus. Cultivated in Mexico for centuries, it still provides a consumer safe red to cosmetics, icing beverages. I bought the book to add to my knowledge of natural dyes. Leticia Troischesnes, Atenveldt
