You have to see the Blu Ray Extended if you only own regular DVDs, worth it
This is to me, THE Definitive Fantasy Adventure movie series of all time. If you had to place this head to head with Original Star Wars, I hate to say it ( no, seriously, I really do hate to say it, I stood in line for the first Star Wars movie for 6 hrs back in '79 ), this beats it. No, not the CGI, or the effects, just the pure storytelling, adventure settings, storyline, etc.
Now for the Extended version. It is worth it to see the extra footage, it is just more icing on the cake, extra fudge topping on the Sundae Supreme. Blu Ray makes this even more "depth-defying" pardon the pun.
I am not going into story detail, if you need that, you have no business buying this set,,, lol..
With "The Hobbit : and Unexpected Adventure" now out, and yes, already saw that, loved it, its 4.6 stars out of 5 ), your LOTR vacancy will get a nice update.
There just isnt another series you can fairly compare this to, IMHO, not the Bond series, Star Wars, Trek flicks,Indiana Jones movies, not any of them. It just IS as close to the perfect set of film stories ever made.
If you already have the DVD's, not the extended, I WOULD spend the money to get the Extended Blu Ray ( I have the series on DVD, and yes, the Blu Ray extended is worth the money ).Read full review
