One of the somewhat subtle themes that I feel really portrays the 1930s Depression situation is women taking care of the household. For example, the main women in the movie gets food, fins a house, and gets a reliable job. My favorite scene is when they share a fantasy of living in a middle class home and the food is already there, such as there own cow and fruit tree
