With the upcoming news about the new Darkwing duck comic series this summer, I have been in DW overload. Seeing as how Disney refuses to release the rest of the series out on DVD I decided to download the complete series. One thing that outraged me is the fact that for the DVD release they did not include the awesome two part pilot "Darkly Dawns the Duck" in it's entire unedited format. in fact no one on the internet has the original made for tv movie that was the pilot. I used to have it on Tape years ago, and to see one of my favorite episodes get hashed up beyond recognition is just... well words fail me but rest assured I was mad. So after looking for days upon days for the uncut unedited version of Darkly Dawns the Duck, I decided to try my luck with ebay. And lo and behold I not only found a copy of the unedited movie, but I actually found a brand new unopened copy of the uncut movie on VHS! Still in it's original wrapping! I was ecstatic! When it arrived today I practically cried as I sat down and watched it with my family. And let me tell you neither of us was dissapointed. Right from the opening previews me and my wife began to get nostalgic. And from then on we had huge smiles on our faces. the movie opened with the familiar theme song and then started the amazingly animated opening sequence in which Darkwing catches some trouble making bikers. This exilerating animated piece was nowhere to be found on the DVD and it's more than a shame. The show never looked so good! Right at that point was when we decided that it was worth the money to find this lost and rare treasure. I'm not going to waste your time by telling you what this movie's all about. (look it up on wikipedia!) But I will tell you that this was the groundbreaking episode that introduced Darkwing Goslayn and Launchpad and began one of the greatest disney shows ever! The writing is pretty deep for a cartoon, the characters are fun and very memorable, the dialog is witty and catchy ( I still get giddy when Darkwing says "Let's get Dangerous" for the very first time) and what can I say, for an animated made for TV movie, the animation is top notch! A true joy to look at. The movie plays really smoothly with all the cut out parts the DVD release lacked, and it's hard to see why some of these scenes got cut out. Like for example Tauras Bulba's line when he sees the thunderquack "Either airplane designs are getting even uglier or it's that Duck!" And speaking of Taurus Bulba, here is a great disney villain that could stand right up there with the likes of Scar, jafar and malificant. He truly is one of the best villains I've ever seen. He's dangerous, witty and actually really likable. And it's refreshing to see an evil scheme that isn't totally ridiculous for a change! Going on with the Content of the movie, the dialog still plays off great even after 19 years. And the physical humor is the one thing that makes this movie shine. You just don't see cartoon violence like this anymore and it's truly a shame. The tape also comes with a tacky and horribly retro music video at the end of it. And if your like me, you'll be rolling on the floor doubled over in laughter at how campy it is. It's so bad it's great! My children certainly loved it as much as I did back when I was their age which truly warms my heart. If you grew up in the 90's, loved Darkwing duck, or just love animation This movie is a classic no disney collection should be without.Read full review

I would recomend the VHS pilot of Darkwing Duck as it was originally intended. DW starts his nightly run in his war on crime.. We see him play 'bop' the bad guy and he makes his way to the police station.. The DVD does not have that.. The VHS has a collectors card in it for the Darkwing duck fan.... I recommend that all fans of this show find and locate the VHS as the DVD does not have some of the above scene mentioned...
I loved Darkwing Duck when I was younger but when I watched this tape it did not amuze me nearly as much as I was anticipating. This however is probably due to the fact that I am not 7 anymore.
