Two blues greats playing and chatting about the music. Albert King the old master and Stevie chiming in with his sound and power. There should be more albums like this.
This CD was released in 1999, but was actually recorded in 1983 for a canadian TV show, which wanted to televise musicians in action. This effectively featured two of eletric blue's brightests stars, Albert King and Stevie Ray Vaughan. The tracks are mostly a compilation of Albert King's repertoire, altough one SRV title does feature (Pride and Joy). Many of the tracks display the inert talents of both guitarists and their incredible ability to work in synergy; altough Albert's Flying V seems lightly out of tune on my of the tracks, we see many glimpses of what made a magical guitar player, especially on "Blues at sunrise" and "Overall Junction" .Stevie Ray Vaughan, on the other hand, seems comfortable at jamming and improvising on tracks which he has seldom played before. To summarise, the Album is a piece of modern blues anthology and the quality of the musicians on the tracks is exemplary, (Piano, Organ, Drums and Bass). Recently before the recording in 1983, A.King had publicly stated that he wanted to "retire" or pull into retirement; the album played a big part into re-lauching the Velvet Bulldozer's carrer as he released his new studio album "im in the phone booth baby" just a year later. This piece of work released pusthumously for SRV solidified his status as an amazing soloist and great student of his childhood idol, Mr Albert King. A Must have for any blues fan.Read full review
