This film was derived from Cornelius Ryan's book of the same title, and it covers the buildup to D-Day and the actual operation during World War II. The film was made during a time when on-screen violence was more muted than now; contrast the Omaha Beach scenes in this film with those in "Saving Private Ryan" to see the difference. The film shows the Allied preparations, and those of the French Underground, as well as the Nazi defenses, which were formidable. Each section is spoken in its native language -- English for the Allies, French for the Underground, and German for the Nazis. Those who understand the subtitled languages might note some slight differences between the spoken words and their translations, but nothing significant. The really interesting thing is the way the sides act and react as the story unfolds. The major points are historically valid. The film, particularly during the beginning of the battle, is epic, and attention getting. This has been released both on VHS and DVD. DVD widescreen is better, since ikt shows the scope of the action better. Besides the original monochrome version, thetre is a colorized release; this latter isn't too bad, but it plays better in black and white.Read full review
This award winning movie is the true story of the events surrounding the 6 June 1944 invasion of Normandy, France. If you pay close attention, you'll be amazed how many stars and future-stars are in this film as leads, seconds, and extras. Fairly massive production and very sweeping in its' tale. Definately belongs in the film library of all historians and militaria collectors. This particular version was released in 1994 on a NTSC VHS format. This review is based on the movie only, I have no idea who the potential seller may be.
Very good condition, no flaws.

I love the cast of superstar performers. There is nothing I dislike about this movie. Red Button, John Wayne, Sean Connery, Henry Fonda, etc. etc. etc. What's not to like?
