This was a good movie about what has become a business mine field for male executives. Michael Douglas is a computer whiz working foe a company called Arcomax. He is on the brink of rolling out a new software that will revolutionize computers and a new game system. He is sure that he will also receive a much deserved promotion and a huge bonus. He and his family live in Seattle, just across the bay, from the city. He goes to work on the big day, and finds out that he not only didn't get the promotion, but that it has gone to a woman with whom he had had an affair years before. She is the typical attractive female boss who has made it to the top the old fashioned way, by screwing every boss she ever had and then blackmailing them into promoting her. I know this sounds callous, but it is so true in some industries. She (Demi Moore) makes it clear that she wants old times to continue, but when he stops just short of having sex, she goes after him for revenge. The owner of the company, Donald Sutherland, is trying to effect a merger with another company, and the roll out of this product is very important to the value of his company. There are some problems though. The system has some problems. It can work, but part of the problem is being caused by production problems. Douglas goes home and doesn't tell his lawyer wife what happened. The next day, he is greeted with a sexual harassement claim charged against him. He tells what happened but nobody believed she went after him. He is being urged to take a move to somewhere else to avoid losing his job. This is suicide and would also cost him all bonus, etc. This all was just too convenient. He refused and filed on her and got a real liberal lawyer. What had happened was Demi Moore had a deal with the other company so she had made changes in the production line processes that changed the air quality and started the process of installing chips by hand instead of robotically. This caused continuity problems that made the product look flawed. Going after her, he finds that there is an ally in the company who was watching out for him, "A Friend". He didn't know who this was, but their help saved his but! Douglas finds out that Moore has set him up from the beginning to get him out. She was affecting the merger value of the company and was ready for a big pay day at the end. Instead she was the one fired. Good movie.Read full review
The movie version of the book written by Michael Crichton is a good, but not great performance by Michael Douglas and Demi Moore. After Fatal Attraction and Basic instinct, you would think that Douglas would not mess with any more seductresses. However, this time, Douglas plays a software whiz who rejects his new boss, Demi Moore s advances- then charges her with sexual harassment. Moore s plays a women who has advanced by taking no prisoners-female or male- and her wrath soon emerges upon Douglas. This is a thriller with sexy action combined with corporate intrigue and is directed by a top notch directer in Barry Levinson ( The Natural, Good Morning Vietnam, Rain Man, Wag the Dog, Sleepers, etc) who also does a masterful job. Good movie for a full evenings entertainment that most will enjoy.Read full review
