I wanted to read and listen to women fighting in Iraq. My heart goes out to any female in the war front. These women are very brave, patriotic and strong willed, to be able to withstand the harsh conditions they encounter. The author interviews women's point of view being overseas. I enjoyed reading of the strong spirit these women show in fighting along men. I bought this to show my support of these "war women". The pictures are very moving of these women and the heavy equipment/ trucks they have to handle. I respect all these spirited women fighting for a good cause. God Bless everyone of them!!! Glad I bought this book- I recommend it strongly.
Holmstedt states that her intention is to show the female soldiers as equal to the men, with interesting, powerful stories. The women's stories were very interesting, but the style of writing detracted from them. Holmstedt uses very simple sentences and identical speech patterns throughout the book, which detracts from the women's sacrifice and courage. While the stories are well worth reading, the book is not well written.
I bought this book to donate to the local school library. One story related the experiences of a woman rescued by our grandson. The librarian said it would be an inspiration to all the young people.
