Filmmaker Tim Burton had already established himself as a high profile director with such fare as "Pee-Wee's Big Adventure", "Beetlejuice", "Edward Scissorhands" and the 1989 version of "Batman". However, he triumphed in a very big way in 1993 with this remarkable stop-motion animation classic film, "The Nightmare Before Christmas". Taking place within the mythical world of Halloweentown, the story focuses on Jack Skellington, the pumpkin king, who has been in charge of the Halloween festivities for many years. Alas, he has become rather bored with the same old thing, and decides to expand his horizons. After accidentally making his way into a group of trees, each one decorated with different holiday insignia, his opens the door to a whole new world: Christmastown. Amazed and astounded at what he sees before him. he decides to take over the Christmas holiday for himself. While his intentions are all well and good, his plans horribly backfire. This movie is a real visual delight, filled with wonderous images, great characters, wonderful story-telling, unique original songs, and a brilliant score from composer Danny Elfman. The stop-motion animation that dominates this film is unlike anything that has come before. After a while, you actually believe in the characters and their surroundings, almost as if you are pulled into this strange world full of goblins and creatures. This is a lot of fun that the entire family will enjoy, over and over again. Nominated for the 1993 Oscar for Best Visual Effects, "The Nightmare Before Christmas" remains Tim Burton's finest film achievement.Read full review
Tim Burton draws attention to any of his work - people tend to love him or hate him... but with the Nightmare Before Christmas, Tim Burton has created a visually stunning masterpiece. The Nightmare before Christmas is a stop-motion animated movie following Pumpkin King Jack Skellington (Love the name!!) who chases what he thinks will be the finer life in Santa Claus's land. But Jack Skellington struggles to leave his world - Halloween! The beauty of The Nightmare Before Christmas is that its beautifuly created and assembled. In fact, it was nominated for an Academy Award. This is the predecessor to Tim Burton's 2005 release the Corpse Bride. The Nightmare Before Christmas is a must have DVD as, with each watch, you will find new and special scenes and moments.
Jack is bored...he needing some stimulation...something new...life (or the lack of it) has become hum drum and predictable...screams & scares...gouls...monsters...gobblins...same old rotten faces ...same familiar stinch...shades of gray and a big pale moon...year after year the same old life (or lack of it)....little does he know a fateful stroll in the woods will give him more than he bargains for....and a new appreciation for the old life he once hated so much... I watch this one at Halloween not Christmas....great entertainment.
A classic. An original. A must see. The vhs version is in a padded protective case and is very durable. I would recommend to any collector or anyone feeling nostalgic.

This is truly a Tim Burton Masterpiece! The highly detailed stop action animation will amaze you and each time you watch you will see something new. The unique idea of having Halloween and Christmas cross paths is brilliant! What kid would not love having their 2 favorite Holidays all rolled up in one. Although Kids Love it Adults will love it. As a mater of fact I know MANY adults including myself who collect the toys and collectables.
