This is a fun and entertaining movie which I enjoyed the first time I saw it. Its what I call a "keeper" in that its a movie I will watch again and again over time. All the actors do a great job. This movie falls in the comedy catagory as there are many laughs through out. Jason Robards plays the missing in action father with the colorful past to Marsha Mason. A young Matthew Broderick plays her son and Donald Sutherland plays a cop who is quite smitten with the lady. Max Dugan (Jason Robards) shows up on a rainy night after years of no contact with his daughter. People are looking for him, not the least of which are the police. She being the big hearted and kind person she is, doesn't send him back out into the rain but allows him to stay the night. The story goes from there. I paid over the top ( in my opinion) to obtain this movie on DVD, but I'm glad I have it. Very hard to find a copy any more.Read full review

An excellent flashback example of 80’s cinema! Well written, snappy dialogue by Neil Simon and well acted by a great cast. Jason Robards as a terminally ill father now out of prison with a case full of cash that he ‘took back’ from a bad Hotel investment is now trying to restore a relationship with his estranged daughter played by Marsha Mason, a widowed schoolteacher and single mom trying to make ends meet with her teenage son (Matthew Broderick). Donald Sutherland plays the love interest/detective that stumbles on to her ‘secret’ turning this into a charming ‘will-he-get-caught’ scenario. Great one-liners in this movie—Max offers his daughter $10G cash in exchange for one drink, when she hesitates his response is, “...in Las Vegas this would buy me TWO drinks.” Definitely worth a watch! (Look for Keifer Sutherland in an uncredited appearance as one of the baseball players).Read full review

It is my all time favorite. I had a VHS tape of Max Dugan Returns, which is a poor picture comparable to dvd which is a clear picture.

No cons. A Great copy of a rare, hard-to-find Neil Simon Classic! Will use again when I see something I need without reservations or worries, that's for sure! Thanks a Bunch!
