This Navarre version of the Pentateuch is very good. The English text is the Revised Standard Version, with the Latin translation too. But you can find that anywhere. Where Navarre shines, and this volume is no exception, is in the footnotes. They are not scholarly, such as you find in the Oxford Bible; instead, they're pastoral. They're like listening to a good homily on the verses they refer to. So, this book is perfect for ministers of all kinds who have to prepare a sermon or homily every week. Navarre gives spiritual depth to the text, not scholarly gloss, which has its value, but is often too technical to be of use in drafting a sermon for public consumption at Sundy services. I like this book!

Wonderful reading, understanding for lay is great and having added information to explain meaning if absolutely great. Wish I would have known about The Navarre Bible to begin with, as I had a hard time with previous bibles purchased. Amazing. You won't be sorry for buying it and wish it would have been your first purchase too.
Very informative.
