I went ahead and purchased the 743 with the FA nib because I had a pilot 823 with the #15 nib custom ground for more flex, I may have pushed it too hard because when I sent it out for tuning he showed me a picture of the nib with a crack so the 723 takes the same nib size as the 823 and the same feed as well. you can not buy just the nib from pilot or any store, so I put custom feeds in them and can switch out the nibs depending which pen I want to use, the 743 is a very nice pen it holds enough ink it has the larger converter and is very comfortable, I will not get the FA nib ground down anymore it flexes enough for me, but the 743 is well worth the 250, I am just happy the 743 came with the FA nib or I would have a pen that just sat on the shelf, the only difference between the 743 and 823 is the filling system. so if you are thinking about purchasing a 743 with the FA nib pull the trigger.Read full review

Another high quality fountain pen by Pilot, and I've never been disappointed in any of their products. This has the new version of the Con-70 converter, which I think does a decent job. The FA nib is definitely on the extra fine side, and has that rather sharp feedback. it has natural line variation which can be increased with more pressure, but the gold nib is quite stiff. The flow is good and it starts the first time every time. This isn't the kind of writer I'd want to use every day, as I think their medium nib is better suited for that, but I'm happy to add it to my collection of Pilot pens.

The fa nib has a nice amount of flexibility. The tines easily spread to about a millimeter apart. The basic line is an incredibly smooth equivalent of a western extra fine. The amount of flexibility is equal to my Platinum Century 3776 but has a much smoother nib tip. The con-70 converter is fun to use! I highly recommend this pen. I can understand why Neil Gaiman would use the custom 823 (same nib but vacuum filler) for his preferred writing instrument. The quality of this pen is right up there with Montblanc, or better, for a fraction of the price. A serious writing instrument.

This is a very responsive pen. The Falcon nib provides a great variation to the line width. It is not a "wet noodle" flex nib but better than the steel flex nibs currently available. The fit and finish is what one would expect from Pilot pen. The CON-70 converter holds plenty of ink, more than the pilot cartridges. If you want to put some flair to your writing, I would recommend this pen highly.

I love this pen! It has the length and nib size of the Custom 823, and it came well-packaged, the typical Pilot/Namiki box. It came far earlier than expected, and, as one who loves Pilot/Namiki pens, a beautiful Japanese-made,high quality pen. THIS WAS A GREAT VALUE.
