I found this book accidentally, and am glad I did! It is full of information I have found in none of my other reference books (ex. maximum roof slope that is safe to walk on). And it is very well organized, with seperate sections for building styles (log cabins, pole cabins, timber framing, etc.). Pages are well laid out, with plenty of pictures illustrating important points. In addition, there is a gallery of cabins, full of large glossy color photos. These are great for design ideas, or just for inspiration. If you want one book about building cabins, this is the one to get! No farming, hunting or homesteading info... Just building cabins!
I only wish there were more color pictures, otherwise its a great book with just enough info to really get you going in the right direction.

This is a good book that covers a lot of different aspects of cabin building from choosing land to building the cabin to building furniture. The book is easy and straightforward, however it is basic and general, the plans are simple not detailed. If you are thinking about building your own cabin I would recommend this book to start out with, then add some more specialized books later.
Great book about building your own cabin. Variety of ideas, pics, and plenty of inspiration!
