I bought this book for a friend that is expecting her first baby. I chose to give her this book because it is a phenominal resource for any mother new or experienced who choses to nurse thier child. Breastfeeding ensures the best possible nutrition for a newborn baby in every sense of the word. The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding covers every possible situation that a nursing mother may come across and throughly explains what has caused the issue as well as what can be done to correct and prevent further issues. You couldn't ask for a better gift for a expectant mother as well as for the expectant father since it will help to demystify the process in a language that is easy to understand! I can't say enough about this book and feel that EVERY mother should have this book on thier nightstand.
This is my second copy of this book! I love this book so much that I lend it to my friends and family when I am not using it. I decided to buy a new copy because this is a newer version than my other copy. the first copy is still in use and this one will be lent out soon. if you ever have a question about nursing your baby this is the reference guide for you. La Leche league is a wonderful organization and even if you don't get to go to meetings this book can help...it's great to have if you do go to meetings too! Great guide from pregnancy tips, to feeding right after birth, starting solids, pumping & storing milk, nipple/breast problems, correct latching, weening, to toddler nursing. This book has it all.
I bought this book after the birst of my first baby, when I experienced trouble nursing. I might have stopped, but turned to this book as a reference to help solve some of the problems I was having. What I found in this book was solid advice, support for my efforts, and new knowledge about the entire process of nursing. I was more educated about nursing after having read it, and was able to resolve my nursing difficulties nursing with its help. In this book, you will find how-to information, including tasteful pictures, of the basics of nursing, and troubleshooting (everything from latch problems to mom's dietary considerations). You will also find lots of naturalistic, holistic advice. But even if you don't subscribe to that way of thinking, there is plenty of good, useful, and smart advice. My word of advice, however, is to read this book prior to the birth of your baby. Had I studied more before my baby's birth, I might have had an easier time at the beginning. This book is the perfect study aid.Read full review
The La Leche League has always been the BEST reference for breast feeding mothers. This is and always has been the authority on the subject of breastfeeding. This book(all of their additions), give you PRACTICAL and loving advice based on art of nurishing and bonding with your baby. They discuss preparation of your body, mind, and heart while pregnant and sage advise from experienced nursing mothers and doctor consults(their mostly men, dads, consults). The most important reason to consult the 'league' is that they WANT you to be sucessful and are willing to share intimate details that previously only your mother or grandmother could or would share/show you if they SUCCESSFULLY were able to nurse their babies. They will be able to explain , in detail, how and why to do everything from a good 'latch' to how to 'express', 'pump' and how/why/when to wean. I am a mother of four breast fed children(all grown and involved with their own children)and a nurse and I give this book to all of my soon to be mothers' and encourage them to join if they have a need this non for profit league. This book is the breastfeeding bible!Read full review
When I was a young mother in the 70s-80s, this was the book I turned to. It helped me be successful at breastfeeding. It always has a positive tone. Any problem can be overcome or has a solution. I often gave it to others as a baby shower gift. It was a great supplement to La Leche League meetings. I also recommended it to my childbirth education students. Of course, I had one of the earlier editions. Now my daughter is expecting her first baby, and I bought this recent edition for her. It's the best book on nursing your baby out there.
