Each case proceeds from chief complaint through diagnostic workup and treatment and includes buzzwords in history taking, physical examination, laboratory tests, imaging, and pathology. This edition's cases give greater emphasis to pathogenesis, epidemiology, differential diagnosis, management, and complications and include radiologic images, photographs, tables, and algorithms. A new two-page format encourages students to read the case presentation and formulate an initial diagnosis before turning the page for the answer. The book ends with twenty all-new board-format questions and answers. integrate material and prepare students for cases seen on USMLE. Each case includes ID/CC (identification of patient and chief complaint), HPI (history of present illness), PE (physical examination findings), Labs (laboratory studies done and their results), Differential Diagnosis, Diagnosis, and Treatment. Illustrations and images show physical presentation or results of imaging studies. Twenty new USMLE-style clinical vignette questions conclude the book. an initial diagnosis prior to reading the answer (presentation on the right-hand page, answers on the next left-hand page); differential diagnosis section which encourages critical thinking about comparable cases; inclusion of relevant MRI images, x-rays, and photographs which allows students to more readily visualize the physical presentation of each case; breakout boxes, tables, and algorithms which have been added; and, all-new board-format questions and answers which make this edition ideal for exam review or classroom discussion.
