Paul Whiteman was the musical bandleader of the 1920's. Jazz and popular music legends from Bix Beiderbecke, Bing Crosby, Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey, Jack Teagarden, the Modernaires, Johnny Mercer and Mildred Bailey were featured in his Orchestra, which also introduced Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" and Ferde Grofe's "Grand Canyon Suite" to the world. Whiteman was also willing to record African-American singers, such as Billie Holiday and Paul Robeson with his band long before it was fashionable to do so. Thus, Whiteman, largely forgotten today, deserves this review of his life. Painstaking research and detail is what you will uncover here. For some, it may be too detailed. But for myself, the only objection I have is to the font size. It is small! Thank you, Mr. Rayno, for a wonderful work!
