Very well written and the actors are great. This is one of Martin Sheen’s best movies in my opinion. And if you’re a female fan you’ll appreciate him in this movie even more. He is gorgeous and shirtless scenes are very sexy.

This Martin Sheen occult thriller plays off his character's -- and the viewer's -- lack of familiarity with and suspicion of the Afro-Caribean religion popularly known as Santeria. What he slowly comes to realize is that Santeria is being employed in a genuine effort to protect him from the truly sinister cult that threatens to sacrifice his son for material gain. It's adapted from a fine novel called "The Religion." In the novel, the evil cult is identified with an Afro-Cuban practice called Palo Mayombe. For whatever reasons, the director chose not to complicate the story with that detail.
I had this movie years ago and lost it somehow, it is a great horror movie and I am glad to have found it again.
