When this show came out originally, I made sure the night it was showing was not interrupted by anything so I can enjoy watching it. I loved all the actors chosen for this TV show. When I bought the dvd of the first season and viewed it, it brought back some memories of watching the TV show. I don't even mine the how badly some of the effects were shot, like his flying scene. It was the thought of having super powers from aliens that could be watching our society. I guess I really enjoy these type of shows because I too dream of having powers from unknown/alien source. The only thing I can say bad about the show is that there are no more new seasons to watch ever. I think I bought this and all other items from the seventies and eighties was just to remember my teen years and early adulthood when things were simple for me. Now when I watch this show I can briefly go back in time and just 'be'.Read full review
Before Deadpool, there was The Greatest American Hero. Aliens gave Ralph Hinkly a super suit which gave him unbelievable super powers, but he lost the instruction book, and didn't know how to use them. This resulted in some of the funniest shows I have ever watched. A little kid taught him to "take 3 running steps and jump" in order to fly, but poor Ralph couldn't keep his balance so he kept flipping and weaving as he flew, and he didn't know how to slow down, so landings were brutal. He always managed to save the day and crack us up while doing so. Great show!

This is a great unsung show of the early 1980's. Premiering in the fall of 1981, this show by Stephen J Cannell was an atypical superhero show. The hero is just an average guy and the SUIT has the powers. Unfortunately Ralph (played by William Katt) looses the instructions to the suit and every situation requires trial and error. Supported by a great cast in Connie Selleca and Robert Culp of I Spy fame. The video quality on this set is pretty good for it's age. The audio isn't as good as the video and does have some hiss in some scenes. Some of the original music has been replaced, but the awesome theme song is there. This set includes all 8 episodes from the first season including the 2-hour Emmy nominated pilot. Set is on 3 DVDs and runs 417 minutes. I was in junior high during the original airing of this show and it was a blast to view them all again.Read full review
This was a Christmas gift for my son that brought back old memories. He used to tie a towel around his neck and pretend he was the greatest American Hero during the weekly television show. His older brother would prop him up on his knees and hands and he would thenpretend to fly while the music was playing. The quality of this video was excellent. It is wonderful to search Ebay and locate items that remind us of happy times with families. It was nice to find a DVD also to go along with updated technology. I'd recommend this DVD, especially if you are old enough to remember that you enjoyed the series when it ran.
This series from the early 80's is evident that it is from the 80's. It wasn't meant to be any great epic it was what it was meant to be, fun, entertaining, a mix of family show, a teacher who cares about students others gave up on, a father who loves his son, etc, mixed with a bit of the whole fun cop show by this I mean there was each week some kind of problem to solve with the help of the FBI agent played but the late Robert Culp. Sometimes it wasn't the best acting or story lines you may find, but if you are looking for just fun, then this was a series worth watching.
