I bought this book for a young co-worker. He is 25 with a wife and a infant to support. His wife is 21,has a 2014 car and wants a 2016 car and other items that need to be financed. I told him "if he read this book and followed the advice, that he would thank me in 20 years". I wish that I had followed the path outlined in this book when I was 25.

This books is really amazing I finished reading it in a matter of days. It is very motivating and teaches you everything you need to do to get out of debt...I had money sitting in a savings account doing nothing but I kept telling myself it was for a rainy day. The Total Money Makeover gave me the guideance to take the money and pay of 6 credit cards and I have 4 more to go. Reading all the stories from real people gave me the strenght to follow in their footsteps. I recommend this book to anybody looking for a way to breathe, a way out from under all the debt. Before I finished the book, I purchased Dave's Financial Peace University and have been listening to the CD's for over 2 weeks now. They go everywhere I go. Dave also provides all the forms in the back of his books and that alone makes budgeting easy. I haven't been able to stopy talking about it with my co-workers and now even my manager is going to be following in my footsteps. This is definitely A MUST HAVE BOOK for any household.Read full review
This is by the Dave Ramsey, the national syndicated show guru that helps reduce and eliminate debt.It is especially recommended in these economic conditions where high debt loads is the norm.Great solutions for those college grads who are underwater with tuition fees and need a light at the end of the tunnel.Recommended to the local newspaper that reported this type of story. They appreciated the advice to help those in need. For example, couples that make $50,000 a year with $50,000 in debt are able to be reduce debt free in a few years following his advice. They call in to his show tell about their victory and the family all shout together "WE ARE DEBT FREE".Most advice does not include bankrupcy. This book is a reflection on that same advice.Highly recommended for the independent thinker who does not feel that "hand outs" are the cure all to financial ills.Great value for the price.Take this one home.Read full review
This book should be dubbed "The Total Money, Marriage and Outlook on Life Makeover". So far, it has only been a month but we have almost completed baby step 1, my husband and I have both read almost the entire book (pausing at the chapter about investments as we have a bit of a ways to go), and we have paid off one of our lower credit card debts. We have also been communicating much easier about our finances with a lot less stress between us. We are currently moving into a written out budget and payment plan for our month which includes dates and amounts to pay our envelopes. I have been so excited about his book and what he offers with it that I have told everyone I know who is struggling to pick this book up either on e-bay, library or somewhere and quick. I am a Ramsy-ite now.Read full review
Easy to read and very pracitcal guide to getting out of debt. Gives the reader step-by-step instrutions in addition to explanations as to "why" this method will work. Has worksheets to help you get started. It also has letters from others who have used this method to get out of debt, which is very inspirational. Easy to read, but hard to implement - if you're ready to begin living a new financial life and are committed to work at it (I mean really work at it), then this book is for you.
