This is a very thin book and a quick read that does two things extraordinarily well: It provides a unit-by-unit listing and Order of Battle for the land forces of all sides in WWI in East Africa, and it includes a beautiful section of artistic renderings of European and African soldiers wearing their many different varieties of uniforms and bearing some of their weapons. It supplements the drawings with many nice photographs (black and white of course) from the war. The only drawbacks of the book-and I hesitate to call it a drawback since it was obviously done deliberately to keep the book brief-is that it provides little detail of the actual campaigns, more of a very broad overview. On the other hand, it actually provides more information about the involvement of Portuguese forces than I have seen anywhere except in the much larger book Tip and Run. Definitely another must-have for anyone interested in the East African campaigns though!Read full review
