I've quit smoking many times before...for 6 months to 4 12 years. Each time it gets harder. This book was highly recommended by a friend who had done the same. It wastes no time telling you what you already know....all the awful consequences of smoking. For Pete's sake, there's a warning on every pack. Us smokers just ignore it. But it does point out in no uncertain terms how brainwashed we've become in why we smoke and the advantages we get from smoking. I've always considered myself both intelligent and logical. So it was quite a shock to me to realize just how illogical all my thinking has been for so many years. Prior to reading this book, I would have fought tooth and nails that I enjoy smoking, like the taste, and how much it helps me to relax and distress, or to fill that empty void. One thing you should know before you read this book....the Author is firm in his instruction that you don't attempt to quit smoking or even cut back until you've finished the whole book. (Of course, that's not a reason to just read one page a day!). If you seriously want to quit permanently...without nicotine substitutes and without the awful withdrawal period, I highly recommend you read this book.Read full review

Don't wait another second to pick up this book! I smoked about a pack and a half a day about 15 years ago. I had tried many things to quit to no avail, and as a result I would get cranky along with all the other associated consequences of the dreaded "lack of a cigarette". I picked up this book. Right away, with a book like this, the walls of defense and anticipation of one of the "worst" experience of your life...the act of "quitting smoking". I was struck by the fact however, that the author encouraged you to smoke. Now I could do this! Three quarters through the book, I was done. No more cigarettes. Not one since that day. No crankiness, no desire. I didn't even finish the book! I think I technically broke the rules of the book, but I'm free! I have probably given about 10 of these books away to friends, and plan on giving more. I usually tell them that if they do not read it or if it does not work for them, I would like it back to give to someone else. If they give it to someone else under those conditions, it's going to end up in the garbage somewhere. However, if it does help them to quit like it did me, handing it off to someone else will be much more effective. Pick this book up! It's not what you think! It will help you!Read full review

This book really gives you a different perspective on the idea of quitting smoking. The suggestions are simplistic but as human beings we tend to make "giving something up" very difficult and think of it as climbing Mt. Everest; however, this book shows you that you are in fact giving up nothing but GAINING so much. The chapters are a bit redundant, almost like the author needed to add chapters, but overall it's a good book. So far, I have been smoke free for 2 weeks, 5 days, 19 hours, 22 minutes, 45 seconds, saved $69.51, didn't smoke 231 cigarettes, and have saved 19h and 54 min off of my life. This book helped to change my attitude about quitting. I wanted to quit so there were other factors involved but this book definitely helped.
I am going to be 40 years old this year. I started smoking when I as 15 years old. Smoking was like breathing to me. I went through at least a carton a week... often more. This book made the "impossible" POSSIBLE! The patch, being hypnotized, accupuncture, nicotine gum.... None of the these things helped me. I had quite several times before... and never made it more than a week. Well, I celebrated 1 YEAR SMOKE FREE ON APRIL 8TH.... I actually purchased this book several times now... to buy for friends & family who smoked. It has worked for them too. It was one of the easiest things I have ever done.. and I am so proud to say I am a NON SMOKER. The hardest part was convincing me to READ THE BOOK. Every time a "non-smoker" would make suggestions on how to quite smoking... all it did was make me want to smoke more.... The author of this book was a CHAIN SMOKER... he has truly changed my life. I promise you... society has us so brainwashed into believing that quilting is hard... IT'S NOT... Nicotine withdrawals are no more difficult than minor hunger pains... This book not only teaches you that... BUT MAKES YOU OPEN YOUR EYES, REALIZE & BELIEVE IT... THIS BOOK HAS SAVED ME OVER $40 A WEEK... WHICH IS OVER $2,000 A YEAR! I now use 1/2 of that money to spoil myself... and the other half helps pay the raise in fuel costs! Please, if you ever wanted to invest in something for yourself... invest in this book. I loved it, and I don't even like to read! mk102087Read full review
I bought this Allen Carr book about quitting smoking. Well, - and I quit. What there is more to say? It works!!! It is the easiest and cheapest and most efficient way to quit. I totally agree when they say that people who quit after this book are not just non-smokers, they are happy non-smokers, not those miserable always craving poor smokers who are always in fight with temptation. I am very calm and content and confident now when quitting with the help of this book. It is cheaper and more efficient to read a book, those patches and all the other nicotine things for quitting are just another cooperate catch, same as tobacco companies. While reading a book (you have to smoke while reading) it is like a meditation, like calm preparation until you are so excited about quitting that you can not wait to get to the last chapter and so convinced that you are not sure why you ever did that in the first place. The author himself is heavy ex-smoker so what he says it is always like hitting the nail in the head, and it never annoys like when non-smokers say their usual blah blah about things they can not understand unless they are smokers. The author definitely has some unorthodox approach, and I think this is the reason why it works. Because it is brainwashing in our heads that gives us fears from quitting itself, once it is removed, you simply and happily quit and live you life happy ever after without a cigarette - and it is so easy. So he flips it other way around, instead of saying all the fear tactics why you should quit smoking, and which never works, we know that; he tries not to give you all the reasons to quit, but to ask you why should you continue to do that and what is a big deal why you need it in your life, your advantages and disadvantages. Well, it is good book and it works. It is worth to give it a shot.Read full review
