For those of us who like guitar pyrotechnics, plus a little bit of melodic hard rock, this one is right up your alley. After all, it takes a certain amount of chutzpah to open up an album with a Hendrix-inspired version of "My Yiddishe Mama" - only to follow it up with a thunderous rocker with a killer hook ("Hold On"). There are high points ("Come Down To Earth", "Can't Leave The Summer I/II" - both carrying screaming guitar solos), low points ("Woman", "The Trip"), and points in between. "Mahesha" opens up like a volcano, and batters you like a tornado. Never mind the outright flub of a line in the third verse (and they kept it! - go figure); the fiery, wah-wah laced guitar solo at the end more than makes up for it. The other songs ("Take Me Down From the Mountain", "Take A Look At the Light"), fall somewhere in the middle, with the former sporting a jaunty, funky guitar break, and the latter with a solid opening guitar line and pensive lyrics. For those who like 70's guitar rock, this one is a sure winner. The vocals, mostly from Adrian Gurvitz with some help from bassist brother Paul, aren't bad (with the exception noted above). Drummer Tony Newman fills in the blanks nicely and Adrian Gurvitz still stands as one of the great under-rated guitar wizards.Read full review
