The original "The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)" as a younger, I remember it was a dark and interesting almost thrilling picture that I was completely struck with and was able to see twice. Later years this classic was all but forgotten being replaced in my mink with the newer CGI animated movies. When it was released on Blu-Ray, the Collectors Edition in (2008) I had missed it and just recently purchased it. I was amazed with the reworked 1080p version of the film, so much that I and my family have watched it many times since. If you haven't seen the original film, this enhanced version will not disappoint even the younger viewers. This edition has so many Special Features and Extras from the past starting with Tim Burton's poem to present, that there are hours of content to enjoy. The Nightmare Before Christmas CE Blu-Ray (2008), is a must purchase movie set you and your family will enjoy and keep in you collection. PerryRead full review

Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas is a 1993 stop motion fantasy film directed by Henry Selick and produced/co-written by Tim Burton. It tells the story of Jack Skellington, a being from "Halloween Town" who opens a portal to "Christmas Town". Danny Elfman wrote the film score and provided the singing voice of Jack, as well as other minor characters. The remaining principal voice cast includes Chris Sarandon, Catherine O'Hara, William Hickey, Ken Page and Glenn Shadix. The genesis of the film started with a poem by Tim Burton written when he was working as a Disney animator in the early 1980s. With the critical success of Burton's stop-motion film Vincent in 1982, Disney started to consider The Nightmare Before Christmas as either a short subject or 30-minute television special. Over the years, Burton's thoughts regularly returned to the project, and in 1990, Burton and Disney made a development deal. Production started in July 1991 in San Francisco. Walt Disney Pictures decided to release the film under their Touchstone Pictures banner because they thought Nightmare would be "too dark and scary for kids". The Nightmare Before Christmas has been viewed with critical and financial success. Disney has reissued the film annually under their Disney Digital 3-D format since 2006.Read full review
This film is a true one of a kind gem! Of course a must have for fans who adore the art of stop motion animation. I had reservations about showing this movie to my 3 year old son since it is a bit on the dark side. But in all honesty the idea of Halloween…or what it has become…a corridor of webbed, dark and scary themed characters such as our other famed Nightmare movies…like Nightmare on Elm Street. But getting back on track to this fantasy filled musical. I decided to let my son watch it since it is a musical film which is another dazzling part of the movie that will capture kids of all ages. I don’t even want to imagine what this movie would be without the musical genius of Danny Elfman. After watching the movie my son absolutely loves it and he didn’t find it all scary. Oogie Boogie has become his favorite character which he calls the blanket. I deem this movie safe for children to watch unless your child is sensitive to scary themes.Read full review
I love that this is such a great Halloween movie for kids. It is not a movie you can drop your kids in front of and walk away but I sat down with my daughter who at the time was 3 and watched it together. When things got a bit scary she would ask questions and I would explain that it was pretend because Halloween is all about dress up and being something different whether it funny, silly, scary, or ugly. Now she loves it and the music and she likes acting like some of the characters. I am sure some children will be more sensitive to the movie so it is best that you watch it first and decide if it is something that you think your child is ready for. I just emphasized the dressing up and the silly parts and down played what might seem scary, but every child is different. Whatever you decide it is a unique and original movie. Enjoy!Read full review
This is a great Movie --now a classic in our family when we have our Christmas Nite/Week Movies we have collected over the years....But you haven't seen anything until you see it in Blu-ray. (PS3 or Sony Blu-ray player work best I think). Colors, shapes, textures are more pronounced. Blu-ray in a brick and mortar store can be very expensive --in the mid to high $30+ range--so I always look for Blu-ray on Ebay. Can't wait till Blu-ray prices drop in general.
