High school musical season is upon us and for a school with a limited budget, sometimes moms are called on to make some of the costumes. "Little Women" is set during the US Civil War. We dressed our Jo in this costume made with a homespun material and she looks the part. The pattern comes out a little bit bigger than the measurements indicate, so keep that in mind when cutting and sewing. For stage work, it's fine - we can make adjustments and the costume will be usable for others in the future. If you are making this for reenactment purposes, be sure to check your measurements and alter as needed. Hoops will help take up the length in the skirt, as well as petticoats. We are not using a corset as our actress is singing, but the boning takes care of the shaping very nicely. A corset would certainly add to the effect but may not be necessary depending on who is wearing the dress.Read full review

This is a rare pattern for Civil War women's clothing and very dressy for that era. For reinactments, it is perfect.
