I like this model for lighting because the nacell caps, impulse engine covers and chiller grills are clear. You can use the color of the lighting to light them, giving the model the "off" effect until lit. It will make a nice model when finished.

This kit was designed and produced by AMT around 1987 (the year TNG premiered) with the help of Andrew Probert. Probert designed the Enterprise-D for the series. There are very few inaccuracies on this model. The biggest gripe I have comes a problem when lighting it. It's designed to be very light kit friendly except that the rear of the secondary hull, where the pylons attach to the nacelles, is one solid piece. This leaves nowhere to run the wires to the nacelles. I will mention that Round 2 models, the current owners of AMT, released a clear version of this model. It's much easier to light because there's no need to drill out the hundreds of tiny windows. Unfortunately that kit is difficult to find. Overall this is a great kit, that builds up beautifully as a static model. And with a considerable amount of work, it builds up a fully lighted model, which is a sight to behold.Read full review

I have been an avid 'Trekkie' since 1966 and have built many of the models over and over. Each one had been a bit more and more detailed. Having seen what some modelers have accomplished over the years, I would like to try my hand at it one more time with 'D'.

It's an old kit but still a good kit. If you're going to put LEDs into the kit, a little modification will be needed. I would suggest a photo etch aftermarket kit as well to help hide the wires going to the nacelles.

Bought model because of it's age. It's an old kit and not very accurate. Will probably use after market parts on it to make it the first or second pilot model.
